MeMe and PawPaw Carey have been here for the last week and are staying next week, too. And the nurse from the hospital that I was telling you about started coming this week. So I've been having some extra help lately... to give my mom and sister a little break. Kristi O'Brian is the nurse that's going to come and help me two days a week from 8-2:30 when she is off from the hospital. We became really close to her when we were in and out of the hospital so much and she just adores Tripp, so I feel comfortable with her. Even if it's just to have someone to hold him in the morning so I can get dressed or I can clean up a bit. Anything helps. So I'm looking forward to her starting to come every week.
So I'm sure I won't win any awards for the "Safest parent of the Year" but I took the side rail off of Tripp's crib and I pushed it right on side of my bed. Yeah, I'd like to see you call child services... they would bring him right back :) Just kidding... But it has helped me SOO much (why I didn't think of it 10 months ago, I don't know). I did it so I could see him when he starts rubbing his eyes. I just cannot let him rub his eyes like that anymore. And this way, anytime he wakes up and moves, I can hear him because he is right next to me. And I did NOT want to start putting him in the bed with me because I know that I would not get any sleep. So it's worked out so far and it makes a world of difference because I'm not having to get up and down and up and down to suction. I can just sit up and do it. I'm really not lazy, I swear... it just really wears you out getting up out of bed that much during the night. And some nights, I would spend so much time just standing by his crib and rubbing his head until he fell asleep... this way I can lay with him and rub his little precious head.
So anyway, thank you so much for the prayers and the support. It means the world. Here are a few pics... first one is from yesterday. Last two are from today. His eye looks 200% better than Monday! I'm pretty sure the blister on inside his eyelid has popped and the swelling has gone down! Praise the Lord!!
Love,
I'm so thankful his eye is beginning to heal!!! He is so precious! You are wise to do the things that make life easier on you!!
ReplyDeleteHi Courtney!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad Tripp's corneal abrasion is getting better. Evey has had them twice in the past year and it stinks! She keeps her eyes shut for days and then we live in the dark for a few days after because her eyes are so sensitive. They seem to heal up quick but the poor little peanut suffers when she has them. Tripp is getting so big!! What an absolute cutie!!
I so glad to see his eye is healing, we will keep the prayers headed your way. Hope you enjoy the weekend Sheila and sky
ReplyDeleteOh I am so grateful to read that Tripp's eye is healing, and he is beginning to feel a little more like his normal self.
ReplyDeleteI'm also so glad to hear that you have some helpers coming around. It sounds like it's in your nature to want to do it all, but if someone is qualified, do try to let them help...you really do need to "refill your tanks" so you can keep on giving Tripp all you can! I admire you, Courtney.
Courtney,
ReplyDeleteYou do whatever it is that you need to do to get sleep. I understand some about getting out of bed to take care of little ones. Our son caught Pertussis when he was 8 weeks old, and would literally have a coughing fit every 45 minutes--ALL DAY LONG. His crib was already in our room, but I couldn't see him from the bed, so I would have to get out of bed to make sure he didn't turn blue and was still breathing after his coughing episode. We finally moved the crib right next to our bed, and had him sleep in his bouncy seat so his head was elevated. Even tho he wasn't coughing less and I was still awake every 45 minutes, the fact that I didn't have to get out of the bed made a WORLD of difference. My body just felt more rested.
I pray that these eye abrasions become less and less as he gets older, and that God will keep protecting him, and give you strengh.
Amanda
Oh honey! I am so glad his eye is getting better - thrilled that you are getting a little bit of help and beyond excited that you figured out a way to at least get a little more rest at night.
ReplyDeleteNo one better judge you for that - breast feeding moms have co-sleepers and bassinets for newborns for that exact reason and they aren't breast feeding as much as you are suctioning and checking on him!
Get some rest honey! I worry about YOU as much as I worry about Tripp!
Janel
Hang in there Courtney..you are a wonderful mum!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for all of you that Tripp's eye is getting better. I hear your frustrations and I hear your celebrations. I had a child with a heart condition and I remember the many many many trips to his crib at each sound he made. Sounds like a wonderful idea to put him closer. Don't worry about anyone judging you. They do not know and they have never walked in your shoes. You are an amazing mom and you are doing what you need to do to survive. Have a wonderful weekend with Tripp's beautiful eyes peeking out at you. I LOVE your pictures when he is smiling so big he could just burst!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am SOOO glad that Tripp is doing better. He, as always, has been in my thoughts and prayers. He is such an adorable little guy! You are such a wonderful mom! I hope that Tripp continues to improve! May God bless sweet little Tripp, and your whole family as well!
ReplyDeleteSuch cuteness! And that sounds like a genius idea to put his bed up next to yours!! I had a very wakeful baby, and getting up and down out of bed IS tiring in itself! Not to mention all you have to do extra while you're up. Keep it up Mama! You're doing great!!
ReplyDeleteHi Courtney: So glad that the prayers were answered and Tripps eyes are getting better. Sure hope that beautiful smile returns ASAP. Take care of yourself and please give Tripp a kiss for me. Love you guys and will continue the prayers. Love Leah's Nana
ReplyDeleteYay!!! Hooray!!! So glad to hear some good news. Glad his eye is doing better and you are getting some help. I LOVED getting to talk to you yesterday, and am tempted to fly there just to give you a (massive) hug. :) You are so amazing, Courtney. Really, you're my hero. Well, you and Tripp, of course. Give Little Man kisses from us.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that his eye is healing!
ReplyDeleteChecked your Thursday post and ran out of time to comment...but, I loved the photo's, especially the one of him cheesing really BIG! So cute!
Hope the next week with the extra help goes well and gets you a break and some much deserved rest.
So thankful to hear that Tripp's eye is better. I am praying for him and for your family. I live in southern Africa and came here from Patrice/Jonah's blog. Hang in there girl!
ReplyDeleteHang in there sweet girl! I am so glad that his little eye is better.
ReplyDeleteI pray that you get more sleep now - do what you have to do to get some rest! Putting his crib by your bed and taking the rail off is a great idea.
Many blessings,
Beth
I'm so glade his eye is doing better. Evan is having the same problem right now. We will keep pray for you all.
ReplyDeleteI am SO glad Tripp's eye is getting better. I think you are a fantastic mommy and I know Tripp loves you so, so much. I will be praying for you all!!
ReplyDeleteOh so glad to read this post. My heart had just been breaking over poor little Tripp's eyes! I think he is so INCREDIBLE! And freakin Adorable!
ReplyDeleteLove and Prayers ALWAYS
so glad Tripp is doing better!!! He is so adorable. When my youngest daughter was little we used Arms Reach Co-sleepers. They were like a crib that attached to our bed. The mattress was just about 1 inch lower. It was fantastic for night times. SO much nicer than having to get up and out of bed. If he starts moving around more you might look into those or just tie his crib to your bed through your mattress.
ReplyDeleteLoved the post always praying for you guys....
So happy he's feeling better!
